Greenwich Police Offer Halloween Safety Tips
Police have issued several tips to ensure a safe Halloween for all.
GREENWICH, CT — Halloween is Saturday, and plenty of people plan to be out and about trick-or-treating and going to gatherings.
The Greenwich Police Department has offered up several safety tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday:
- Be Seen: Choose bright-colored costumes or add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags. Carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility after dark.
- Stay Together: Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Older children should travel in groups and establish a planned route and return time with their parents.
- Cross Safely: Use sidewalks and designated crosswalks whenever possible. Look both ways before crossing and avoid walking between parked vehicles.
- Choose Safe Costumes: Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls. Masks should not obstruct vision, and costume accessories should be soft and flexible.
- Check Candy: Parents and guardians should inspect all treats before allowing children to eat them. Avoid consuming homemade or unwrapped treats from unfamiliar sources.
Drivers should use additional caution throughout Halloween weekend, especially during the late afternoon and evening hour:
