Here's When DeCicco & Sons Grocery Store Might Open In Greenwich

First Selectman Fred Camillo gave an update on the much-anticipated grocery store last week.

GREENWICH, CT — Nearly two years after plans for DeCicco & Sons were approved by the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission, the popular grocery store has yet to open its doors. But it appears the wait is almost over.

A spokesperson for DeCicco's told Patch on Aug. 10 that the store at 21 Glenville St. in Glenville was awaiting final approvals from the town, and that an exact opening date was unknown.

First Selectman Fred Camillo then gave an update on the grocery store during the Aug. 13 Board of Selectmen meeting and provided more clarity on when residents can expect an opening.

Camillo said he's been in touch with DeCicco leadership every day.

"They've got all their permits, as I've mentioned before; they were waiting on one permit that had to do with the property owner. Then there was an issue with the retaining wall in the back," Camillo said. "It's probably another month out, but it's coming. We promise you it will open up."

Patch has reached out to the property owner for more information.

DeCicco & Sons was founded in 1973 by John DeCicco Sr., according to the company's website. The business began as a small grocery store in the Bronx, N.Y.

"For over 50 years, DeCicco & Sons has had a proud history of bringing the largest selection of high-quality food available to customers with a friendly, personal touch," the company's website says. "This simple, unwavering mentality has enabled the company to expand throughout Putnam and Westchester Counties."

There are now 11 stores open throughout Westchester in Ardsley, Armonk, Bedford, Brewster, Eastchester, Harrison, Larchmont, Millwood, Pelham, Sleepy Hollow and Somers.

The grocery store has been holding job fairs at the Greenwich location this summer in preparation for opening.
