CTDOT urges drivers between Groton and New London to slow down, follow signs, and stay alert as crews replace sections of the bridge deck.

Navy man pleads guilty to felony charge in accidental Groton shooting (theday.com) — A Navy sailor has pleaded guilty to felony second-degree assault after an accidental rifle discharge in his Groton apartment seriously wounded his upstairs neighbor in December 2025. He received a fully suspended sentence with three years' probation, faces a firearm ban, and may owe restitution, while the victim continues dealing with long-term medical impacts.

Groton High Schools Among Best In CT, New Rankings Reveal (patch.com) — Two Groton high schools just earned spots among the best in Connecticut, with Marine Science Magnet High School ranked 14th statewide and Fitch High School 57th. The new U.S. News & World Report list evaluates schools on graduation rates, test performance, and college readiness using 2023-24 data, and highlights how well schools serve underserved students.

Threats, Evacuation: 3 Arrested After Hour-Long Standoff At Trumbull Marriott, Police Say (dailyvoice.com) — A woman with two active Groton failure-to-appear warrants was among three people arrested after an hour-long standoff at the Trumbull Marriott, where police say threats were made and a hotel room was heavily damaged. Trumbull officers and U.S. marshals were serving an arrest warrant tied to an alleged multistate power-tool theft ring when the confrontation began. The investigation into additional thefts across Connecticut and New England is still ongoing.
