Pet Breeders Scam Residents In Groton, Police Say
The department has received "multiple reports" of pet breeders that have scammed local residents, according to police.
GROTON, CT — Police issued a warning after receiving "multiple reports of out-of-state pet breeders that have attempted and successfully scammed" Groton residents.
"It is advised that buyers thoroughly research any companies and their social media accounts before making any purchases," City of Groton police wrote in a Facebook post. "The scammers use different company names and locations however their methods are the same."

- Breeders communicate through third-party messaging apps or social media only
- Breeders ask the buyer to send money to multiple fake companies
- Breeders request continuous additional fees after initial purchase was made
