Guilford Police Accepting Applications For 2026 Citizens’ Police Academy Program

Participants will gain a better understanding of police operations, community policing strategies and the role of law enforcement.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is still accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens’ Police Academy.

The program is designed to give residents an inside look at modern policing through hands-on experiences, presentations and discussions with members of the department, according to a news release on the department’s website.

Participants will gain a better understanding of police operations, community policing strategies and the role of law enforcement in serving the community.

Topics covered in the academy may include patrol operations, criminal investigations, use-of-force decision-making, traffic enforcement and crash investigations, specialized units, and crime prevention, according to the department.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, live or work in Guilford, have no serious criminal history and be willing to submit to a background check, police said. The application period opened Jan. 29 and will close March 1.

The program is scheduled to run weekly from March 26 through May 28.

Space is limited, and qualified applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis pending background review, according to police.
