GUILFORD, CT — Town officials are warning residents about a scam involving emails impersonating the town’s Inland Wetlands Commission and targeting applicants with fraudulent payment requests.

According to the Town of Guilford, officials have become aware of fraudulent emails sent to applicants claiming additional fees must be paid for an application to be approved. The messages attempt to collect payment through methods not used by the town.

Town officials said the Inland Wetlands Commission does not request additional payments through wire transfers, and fees for applications are invoiced only through the town’s online permitting system, Energov.

Officials also said legitimate email communications from staff will come from official government addresses ending in "@guilfordct.gov" or from NOREPLY.TownOfGuilford@guilfordct.gov."

Officials advise anyone who receives suspicious communications not to click links or provide information.
