There are several hikes and events upcoming from the Guilford Land Conservation Trust.

GUILFORD, CT — There are several hikes and events being offered by the Guilford Land Conservation Trust in the coming weeks and months.

Here's a rundown of the schedule. For more details about the properties featured and other GLCT activities, visit the GLCT website.

Those interested in attending any of the events should arrive 10 minutes ahead of start time. Leashed dogs are permitted unless otherwise stated. Heavy rain cancels unless a rain date is specified.

  • Tuesday, March 3 5:30 p.m., Full Worm Moon Hike - Join GLCT Directors Bernadette Bober and Jodie Lang for a short one-hour hike to see the full moon. Meet at the Moose Hill Road entrance closest to Old Road. Please bring a headlamp or flashlight. Rain, icy conditions, or heavy clouds cancel this hike. No dogs please. Contact: 203-508-2064.
  • Saturday, April 11 9:00 a.m., Timberlands Hike - Join GLCT President and Appalachian Mountain Club hike leader Janet Ainsworth on an easy walk in the Town of Guilford’s Timberland Preserve. Hikers will walk up to four miles, beginning at the trailhead on Route 80, which is opposite the hiker parking lot near Maple Hill Rd. Heavy rain cancels. Suitable for children. No rain date.   • Sunday, April 26 8 a.m., Westwoods Trail Run - Join GLCT Directors Bernadette Bober and Jodie Lang for a 5-mile trail run through Westwoods. Social pace.   • Saturday, May 9 10 a.m., Westwoods Nature Trail in Spring - Join local Native Plants landscape architect, Crystal Gaudio, and GLCT Board member and Westwoods Nature Trail Guide contributor, Kathleen White, for a walk on the Nature Trail to view spring ephemerals and other flora and fungi before the trees fully leaf out.   • Sunday, May 17 5 p.m., The Olmsted Outing - A Riverside Restoration Celebration - After a year of reconstruction, the seawall is complete, the lawn is lush (or getting there), and the "pocket park" on West River is officially back. Join the GLCT at Olmsted Outlook for a picnic and live music. Stay tuned for more details. Pack your favorite food, spread a blanket on the grass, and help celebrate the reopening of this local gem. Enter via the crosswalk on River Street, just north of Broad Street. Limited parking; please park on a nearby street (Broad Street is a good option). Rain date Sunday, May 24, 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 23 1 p.m., Paul Trail - Join WWTC Chairman Paul Proulx and volunteer Christelle Ripault for a walk on the Paul Trail. The trail is an easy 1.5-mile walk overlooking rocky outcrops, a small island, and Guilford’s 150-acre Great Harbor Marsh with views of Long Island Sound. Meet at the entrance on Sachem’s Head Road, across from Community Nursery School. Park up on the curb, alongside the road.   • Saturday, June 6 10 a.m., Nut Plains Woods Hike - Join Janet Ainsworth for an exploration of GLCT’s Nut Plains Woods on this National Trails Day. Meet at the Sullivan Drive entrance to the East River Preserve, 55 Sullivan Drive. Some portions of the planned route are steep, so hiking shoes/boots and poles are recommended. Heavy rain cancels.   • Friday, July 24 8:30 pm., Celebrate National Moth Week at the Jared Eliot Preserve - Join iNaturalist Ambassador and nature photographer Abby Sesselberg and GLCT Director Steve Mayo in a search for night insects. The GLCT will be demonstrating the iNaturalist app for identification. Bring a headlamp or flashlight. Meet at the end of Mulberry Farms Road. Rain or strong winds cancel.
