Bedroom Fire Extinguished, 8 Displaced In Hamden: Officials

HAMDEN, CT — Eight people and four dogs were displaced from a home after a fire early Saturday morning in Hamden, according to officials.

The Hamden Fire Department responded around 4:30 a.m. to a report of a fire on Hobson Avenue.

The first-arriving crew reported smoke coming from a basement window, according to a post on the Hamden Fire Department’s Facebook page.

“The crew stretched a line to the basement and extinguished a fire in a bedroom,” officials wrote in the post. “The crew was able to successfully rescue a small dog that was in the bedroom. The dog was given oxygen by an ambulance crew on scene and is expected to make a full recovery.

“The Hamden Building Official declared the house temporarily uninhabitable and eight occupants and four dogs were displaced. American Red Cross was on scene to offer the family lodging and assistance. The Hamden Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.”
