HAMDEN, CT &mdash; Ms President US leader Gopika Sheth was featured yesterday on the Sounds of Health podcast, sharing her inspiring journey from elementary school participant to accomplished youth leader, mentor, and founder of the Greater New Haven chapter of Ms President US.
A rising senior at Choate Rosemary Hall, Gopika has been part of the Ms President US program since fourth grade, when she first discovered a passion for leadership, public speaking, and civic engagement. Today, she leads the Greater New Haven chapter, mentors younger participants, and serves as a powerful role model for girls throughout the community.
During the podcast, Gopika discussed how the program helped shape her confidence and leadership skills while encouraging other young people to become active participants in their communities.
"Gopika represents exactly what Ms President US strives to cultivate," said Amanda Cordano, Executive Director of Ms President US. "She began as a young participant with big dreams and has grown into an inspiring leader who is now empowering the next generation. Watching that full-circle journey has been extraordinary."
Gopika was elected Ms President Hamden in 2019, running on a platform of transportation access. In 2025, Gopika was recognized by Ms President US with the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award after contributing more than 100 hours of volunteer service. As a certified organization for the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, Ms President US honored Gopika for mentoring younger girls in the program while also volunteering with Integrated Refugee &amp; Immigrant Services (IRIS) and at Hamden Fest.
The Sounds of Health podcast appearance highlights the growing impact of young women like Gopika who are demonstrating that leadership begins long before adulthood.
"I've grown up with Ms President US," said Gopika. "The program gave me confidence when I was in elementary school, and now it's incredibly rewarding to help younger girls discover their own voices and realize that they can make a difference in their communities."
Ms President US is a national, nonpartisan leadership and civic engagement program for girls in grades 4-8, with chapters throughout Connecticut and New York. Through public speaking, mentorship, community service and campaign experience, participants develop the confidence and skills to become tomorrow's leaders.

OPEN AUDITIONS FOR THE SANTA SWITCH – FIRST&nbsp;TIME&nbsp;EVER&nbsp;IN&nbsp;CT
Broadway On Main Theatre Company and Cabaret on Main Theater are holding open auditions for The Santa Switch, a heartwarming new holiday jukebox musical making its first appearance in Connecticut this November.
Youth performers ages 9–17 and adults 18+ are invited to audition. All experience levels are welcome.
Santa has already been cast — now we need the rest of Christmas!
<h3>ABOUT THE SHOW</h3>
The Santa Switch combines an original holiday story with familiar hit songs audiences know and love, including:
<ul><li>Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree</li><li>A Holly Jolly Christmas</li><li>What a Wonderful World</li><li>Fight Song</li><li>Breakaway</li><li>Best Day of My Life</li><li>And many more</li></ul>
The production features principal roles for both youth and adult performers, along with a large youth and adult ensemble with numerous featured roles.

<h3>WHO CAN AUDITION?</h3>
Youth Performers: Ages 9–17 Adult Performers: Ages 18+
All experience levels are welcome.
<h3>PRINCIPAL ROLES</h3>
LUCY An energetic, optimistic aspiring artist. Vocal Range: G3–D5 Must be comfortable with contemporary mix/belt through D5.
JACK A charismatic New York advertising executive. Vocal Range: B♭2–B♭4.
MRS. CLAUS Warm, intelligent and ready to take charge. Vocal Range: A♭3–E5 Must be comfortable with contemporary mix/belt through E5.
RHUBARB Santa's hilarious and energetic Head Elf. Vocal Range: B3–E5 Must be comfortable with contemporary mix/belt through E5.
TOPHER Kind-hearted, sincere and full of Christmas spirit. Vocal Range: D3–E4.
Plus a large youth and adult ensemble with many featured roles.
<h3>AUDITION REQUIREMENTS</h3>
Please prepare one holiday song that best showcases your voice.
Bring your own backing track. No accompanist will be provided.
Performers may also be asked to read from the script and participate in a brief movement combination.
<h3>PERFORMANCE DATES</h3>
November 6–22, 2026
Performances will take place at Cabaret on Main Theater in East Haven.
This is an opportunity to be part of the cast introducing The Santa Switch to Connecticut community theater audiences for the first time and help us create what we hope will become a new holiday tradition.
