Baby Ducks Receive Helping Hand From Hartford Firefighters: FD

Hartford crews on Saturday came to the aid of six ducklings amid an extremely busy weekend.

HARTFORD, CT — Firefighters in Hartford rescued six ducklings from a storm sewer Saturday afternoon, shortly after responding to a house fire, according to the City of Hartford Fire Department.

Crews from Engine Co. 14 and Ladder Co. 4 were dispatched to Park River Drive on Saturday, May 2, for an unusual call after the ducklings fell into a storm drain.

Their mother remained nearby but was unable to reach them.

Firefighters retrieved each duckling from the sewer and reunited them with the mother duck at the scene.

No injuries to the baby ducks or humans were reported.

The rescue came moments after crews battled a serious residential fire on Edgemont Street Saturday morning.

Several hours later, crews would battle another blaze in the same street early Sunday morning.

A total of 23 residents were displaced in both fires.
