Balanço em Dois celebrates the music of Brazil – Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro, Baiao and more, styles that are a blend of African and indigenous rhythms with European folk and dance rhythms. The duo’s repertoire features songs by Brazil’s classic composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Moacir Santos, Jacob do Bandolim, Luiz Bonfa, Pixinguinha, Baden Powell, Ary Barroso and others. The Duo take things a step further by using their jazz backgrounds to add improvisation into the tunes, creating a sound that blends the best of both worlds. In other words: the best music from “Both Sides of the Equator”.

Joe Carter is the Director of Academic Music Programs at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.Since 1988, Joe has performed, taught, recorded and occasionally lived in Brazil. This experience, combined with performing and teaching in India, Germany and France, have helped him to form a sound and style based in “Samba Jazz” that combines the improvisational nature of North American Jazz with the lyrical and rhythmical aspects of Brazilian Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, Baiao and MPB.

Laura Volpintesta is a vocalist and dancer specializing in Jazz and Brazilian style music and dance, who has performed locally in CT. Laura is also a fashion designer, illustrator, author and has been an educator for the past 20 years at Parsons School of Design in NYC.

Underwater Kite is not your average Connecticut art gallery. In fact, it's not an average gallery anywhere. Fully unique and in a class all its own, UWK is the brainchild of artist and curator, Antony Zito working in partnership with Hartford’s “Artists in Real Time”, the nonprofit organization run by Cynthia Bulaong. Zito’s vibrant and diverse curatorial style brings a decidedly urban and edgy lilt to Windsor.

Come early and view the current exhibition, “Tar & Feathers” featuring over 100 artworks by 78 artists. It's full of deft humor, emotional depth, vibrant intellect, skillful craft and surprising moments - the perfect environment for summer evenings of jazz.
