Hartford Murder Suspect Dies After Being Rushed To Hospital From Prison: State
State police and the inspector general are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Hartford man after he was rushed to the hospital.
HARTFORD, CT — Authorities are investigating the death of a 20-year-old murder suspect who died Thursday after being transported from the Connecticut Department of Corrections’ Hartford Correctional Center to a local hospital.
The man, identified as Jayshawn Johnson of Hartford, was evaluated by medical staff at the facility at about 10:25 a.m. on April 23, officials said.
According to the state Department of Correction, medical personnel on Thursday determined Johnson required care beyond the facility’s capabilities, and he was transported by ambulance for further treatment.

Johnson was conscious and alert when he left the correctional center, according to the department.
He died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The time of death was recorded as 12:12 p.m.

State corrections officials did not indicate why Johnson was being incarcerated, but a murder suspect identified as Jayshawn Johnson, 20, was arrested and taken into police custody in Hartford on Tuesday, April 21.
According to the Hartford Police Department, Johnson was charged with murder on Tuesday in connection with a fatal 2025 shooting that claimed the life of another 20-year-old male.
Johnson had actually entered the state correctional system on Aug. 22, officials said.
The Connecticut State Police and the Office of the Inspector General are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have not released additional details.
The cause of death will be determined by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
