📰 News we're reading

1. Pump Station Completed For Massive Hartford Sewer Tunnel Project (patch.com) — Hartford residents are seeing major progress on the South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel as a $138 million pump station on Brainard Road is officially completed. The new facility will help move up to 41.5 million gallons of combined wastewater and stormwater to the Hartford Water Pollution Control Facility, significantly reducing sewage overflows into local rivers and improving water quality for Hartford and downstream communities.

2. Hartford leaders reinforce board's powers to investigate police misconduct (ctpublic.org) — Hartford city leaders have just voted to give the Civilian Police Review Board clearer power to obtain internal police records, compel testimony, and push misconduct cases to arbitration when the chief disagrees. The move follows months of clashes with the police union and department, and comes after residents and the inspector general pressed the council to restore the board's ability to conduct meaningful oversight.

3. High school students get hands-on experience in healthcare as part of ReadyCT program (wtnh.com) — High school students from across Connecticut, including Hartford Public High School, spent Friday at Hartford Hospital getting hands-on exposure to healthcare careers through the ReadyCT program. The Create Your Path: Careers in HealthCare Summit let students shadow staff, tour departments, and learn about internships, all aimed at connecting classroom lessons with real-world job skills local employers need.

4. With new coach behind the bench, Hartford Wolf Pack open 2026-27 season on road (courant.com) — Hartford hockey fans will see a fresh look this season as the Wolf Pack, now led by new head coach Jay Leach, open their 2026-27 campaign on the road before returning for a Friday home opener. With returning contributors like Anton Blidh and Dylan Roobroeck plus former UConn standout goalie Callum Tung, the team is aiming to snap a two-year playoff drought for Hartford supporters.

5. New ICE restrictions start this week. Can Connecticut enforce them? (news12.com) — Connecticut's new law limiting where and how ICE can operate is already facing a major legal challenge before a federal judge in Hartford. The case will determine whether the state can enforce rules like mask bans and warrant requirements for civil immigration arrests, after a disputed courthouse arrest in Meriden raised questions about how far federal agents must comply.
