West Hartford Seeks Public Input On School Traffic Safety
West Hartford is seeking feedback on walking, biking, and traffic safety near all 16 public schools through a survey open until Nov. 20.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford residents are asked to help identify traffic safety concerns near the town's 16 public schools as part of a new initiative to improve student travel routes.
The Town of West Hartford and West Hartford Public Schools are collaborating on a Safe Routes to School program that will evaluate conditions around every school in the district.
The initiative is part of the Vulnerable Road User Safety Project, which is funded through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program.

Safety Reviews Planned At All 16 Schools
As part of the project, teams will visit each of the district's 16 schools this fall to observe traffic conditions during morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals.
The evaluations will focus on how students and families travel to and from school, including pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle activity.
The project team will also collect feedback from families, students, school staff, and residents living near school properties.
Officials said the goal is to identify areas where travel conditions feel safe and locations where improvements may be needed.
Public input will supplement observations at individual schools.
Residents Asked To Identify Problem Areas
Residents do not need to have children enrolled in West Hartford Public Schools to participate.
The town is seeking feedback from anyone who walks, bicycles, drives, or lives near a school.
Participants can use the online survey and interactive map to share their experiences and identify areas of concern.
The information will help the town and school district better understand traffic safety issues affecting students and other road users.
The Safe Routes to School initiative is part of West Hartford's broader efforts to improve roadway safety, particularly for pedestrians and bicyclists.
