Wild July 4 Party In Hartford Results In Gunshots, Firearms Raid: Police

Witnesses estimated that at least 50 shots were fired during the gathering, prompting a call to police.

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police recovered six firearms after responding to reports of dozens of gunshots early July 4 at a gathering on Edgewood Street, authorities said.

According to the Hartford Police Department, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 12:07 a.m. Saturday, July 4, reporting about 50 gunshots in the area of Garden Street.

Members of the department's Street Crimes Unit, who were already nearby, confirmed the gunfire was coming from the area of Edgewood Street.

When officers arrived at 417 Edgewood St., they heard additional gunfire and observed a large gathering in the rear yard of the property.

Officers entered the backyard, where they found numerous spent shell casings.

Additional officers responded and safely detained a large group of people without incident, police said.

During the investigation, officers determined that two individuals possessed valid Connecticut pistol permits and were lawfully carrying registered firearms.

Police also recovered five additional firearms during a search of the backyard.

In total, authorities seized six firearms:

  • Glock Model 21, .45 caliber
  • Smith & Wesson 9mm
  • Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum
  • Glock Model 45, 9mm
  • Taurus PT92, 9mm
  • Taurus PT940, .40 caliber

Investigators also recovered:

  • 19 spent 9mm shell casings
  • Six spent .40-caliber shell casings
  • Three spent .357 Magnum shell casings
  • Nineteen live rounds of assorted calibers

Police said no gunshot victims had been reported by area hospitals, and investigators found no evidence that anyone had been struck by gunfire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
