• Meriden church's $1 million construction project restarts after being shut down for months (nhregister.com) — Construction has restarted on Elevate Life Church's $1.1 million expansion on South Broad Street in Meriden after months of delay over permitting issues. The contractor says high fees, added engineering costs, and possible sprinkler requirements are straining the project as the church races to finish the facade before a mid-September conference.
   

• Connecticut gas prices among highest in nation for Labor Day travel (wfsb.com) — If you're filling up in Meriden, one local Petrex station is among the few in New Haven County still offering gas under $4 a gallon, at $3.89. That's a rare break as Connecticut's average price has climbed to $4.33, the highest in New England.
