Barn Engulfed In Flames During Monroe Fire

MONROE, CT — A large barn fire in Monroe prompted a multi-department emergency response Wednesday morning after part of the structure collapsed, according to officials.

Firefighters were called around 10:08 a.m. to 619 Judd Road, where arriving crews found the barn heavily engulfed in flames and immediately declared a working fire, according to the Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office.

Officials said part of the building had already collapsed by the time firefighters arrived on scene.

Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, mutual aid tanker crews from Botsford and Dodgingtown in Newtown were called in to assist with water supply operations, officials said.

The fire was brought under control within about 35 minutes, though firefighters remained on scene for overhaul operations.

Fire Marshal William Davin said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
