Set against the changing landscape of the American South, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of Daisy Werthan, an independent and strong-willed Jewish widow, and Hoke Coleburn, the Black chauffeur hired by her son after Daisy is no longer able to drive herself.

What begins as a relationship filled with resistance and differences gradually develops over the course of 25 years into an extraordinary and deeply moving friendship.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Driving Miss Daisy is a story about aging, prejudice, family and the unexpected relationships that can change our lives.

At the center of Broadway On Main's production are three Connecticut performers: Debi Freund as Daisy Werthan, Marvin Glenn Jones as Hoke Coleburn and Jamie Carson as Boolie Werthan.

With only three actors carrying the story, the production places the focus squarely on the performances and the evolving relationship between Daisy and Hoke.

An Immersive Way to Experience a Classic

Audiences will experience Driving Miss Daisy inside Cabaret on Main Theater, East Haven's immersive performance venue.

Rather than simply watching the story from a traditional auditorium, audiences are brought closer to the world of the play through the theater's intimate staging and immersive projection environment.

Cabaret on Main's 280-degree projection system helps transport audiences through the different locations and years of Daisy and Hoke's journey while allowing the production to maintain the simplicity and humanity that have made the play endure for generations.

Guests can choose between Premium Cabaret Seating, featuring table seating with the ability to bring their own food and beverages, or Standard Theatre Seating.

The result is a theater experience designed to feel personal, immersive and distinctly different from a traditional night at the theater.

A Story That Still Resonates

Although Driving Miss Daisy begins in 1948, the questions at the heart of the play remain remarkably relevant.

How do people from different backgrounds learn to understand one another? How do our relationships change as we age? And what happens when two people who seemingly have very little in common discover just how much they mean to each other?

At its heart, Driving Miss Daisy isn't simply a story about a woman and her chauffeur. It's about friendship — the kind that develops slowly, unexpectedly and sometimes without either person realizing how important it has become.

It's also the kind of story that can be shared across generations.

Broadway On Main Theatre Company hopes audiences will make the production a night out with a parent, grandparent, longtime friend or someone special in their lives.
