New Haven Man, 21, Gets 40 Years For 2023 Fatal Shooting Of Shaquille Pearson, 29, in New Haven: Court

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 21-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to serve 40 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of Shaquille Pearson, 29, in New Haven in 2023, according to Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr.

Joseph Dominick's sentence will be suspended after he serves 30 years, followed by a five-year period of probation, Doyle said.

In July, Dominick pleaded guilty in Superior Court in New Haven to first-degree manslaughter, court records show.

On Nov. 14, 2023, Pearson was fatally shot during a street altercation in the area of East Pearl Street and Grand Avenue in New Haven.

In a news release, Doyle extended his "condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Pearson, many of whom attended the sentencing hearing and delivered heartfelt remarks about the magnitude of their loss." Doyle also thanked lead Detective Christopher Stroscio of the New Haven Police Department and many of his fellow law enforcement officers who investigated the case.
