Erector Square Open Studios 2026 Showcases 120 Artists, Creatives Oct. 17, 18 (patch.com) — New Haven residents are invited to explore Erector Square Open Studios on October 17 and 18, where 120 local artists will open their workspaces at 315 Peck Street. Visitors can meet New Haven creatives, enjoy family art-making, live music, interactive workshops, and a special group show at the new Color Local gallery, all free as part of Open Studios New Haven.

2. Update: 21-Year-Old Stabbed in Edgewood Neighborhood Victim of Domestic Violence: NHPD (patch.com) — Neighbors in New Haven's Edgewood neighborhood saw a heavy police response Thursday morning after a 21-year-old man was found stabbed inside a Norton Street apartment and rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital. Police now say the victim's condition is stable and that the case appears to be domestic violence, and they are asking anyone with information to contact detectives or the anonymous tip line.

3. Hillhouse Assistant Principal Pleads Not Guilty To Sexually Assaulting Student (newhavenindependent.org) — New Haven residents should know that Hillhouse High School assistant principal Daniel Bonet has pleaded not guilty to charges that he sexually assaulted a student, after being placed on administrative leave by New Haven Public Schools in May. A judge confirmed his plea and set the next court date for Nov. 17, while officials declined to comment further and resources for sexual assault support were highlighted.

4. Gelateria Couple Attacked In Whit Garage (newhavenindependent.org) — New Haven readers should know that La Fenice Gelateria co-owners Salvatore Scuro and Simona Silvestri were violently attacked in the parking garage next to their Chapel Street café, in the new Whit apartment complex area where they recently made their home. Police quickly arrested a New Haven man now jailed on assault and related charges, while the couple recovers from injuries and tries to keep their business open.

New Haven ended fiscal year 2026 with surplus, but Board of Education facing $9.6M deficit (wtnh.com) — New Haven closed fiscal year 2026 with a small $1.1 million surplus, but its Board of Education ran a $9.6 million deficit that's drawing heavily on the city's rainy-day fund. City leaders say the overall fund balance has rebounded strongly since 2019, yet warn that rising school transportation, staffing, pension, and debt costs, plus the end of federal ARPA aid, pose serious challenges ahead.
