VIDEO: Man With Rope Atop Temple Garage Threatening to Jump Rescued By New Haven Police, Fire

NEW HAVEN, CT — On Saturday, police and firefighters rescued a man who'd tethered himself to a rope sitting on a wall atop the Temple Street garage.

It was around 7:20 p.m. when New Haven police officers were dispatched to the Temple Street garage after a 911 caller reported seeing a man holding a rope while sitting on a wall several levels above the street. The caller says she sees " a guy on the ledge," on the third level of the garage.

The first officer on the scene, as seen in the video below, is NHPD Officer Mary Ruiz, who races to the man's aid, climbs up the ledge, and leans over.

Officers and fire department personnel were unable to prevent him from jumping, but he remained suspended by a rope, police said

"Acting quickly and at great risk to themselves, responders were able to pull him back over the wall, saving his life," police said on Facebook. Police said the man is "alive with non-life-threatening injuries and currently recovering."
