• New Milford's July Employment Data Release, Here's What The Numbers Reveal (patch.com) — New Milford's July unemployment rate reached 5.3 percent, with 829 residents out of a 15,524-person labor force counted as unemployed, mirroring Connecticut's elevated statewide jobless trend. While the state's unemployment rate remains above the national figure, Connecticut continues to add nonfarm and private sector jobs, especially in education, health services, and professional fields.
   

• New Milford is first Connecticut district to start school year (wfsb.com) — New Milford students are the first in Connecticut to head back to school, with about 3,500 kids returning to classrooms and buses rolling up to Hill and Plain School. The district is emphasizing its "Together We…" theme, sharing bedtime story recordings with kindergarten families and planning a high school curriculum night on September 8 so parents can learn what's ahead.
   

• The Strange Legend of 'Candy,' Candlewood Lake's Giant Monster Fish (i95rock.com) — A spooky local legend says a giant fish nicknamed "Candy" lurks near Vaughn's Neck on Candlewood Lake, in the stretch between New Milford and New Fairfield. The story, dating back to the late 1970s, paints Candy as a boat-tipping, people-eating monster, even as officials note the lake simply spans five nearby communities, including New Milford.
