Amazon Delivery Driver Strikes, Kills Dog In Newtown Driveway: Police
Police said the driver was delivering a package when the dog was struck behind the vehicle.
NEWTOWN, CT — An Amazon delivery driver accidentally struck and killed a dog while making a delivery in Newtown this week, according to police.
Police said the incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on Pilgrim Lane.
According to the accident report, the driver had backed a 2025 Rivian delivery van into the driveway of a home while delivering a package.

Police said the driver told officers he reentered the vehicle and began driving forward when he heard something underneath the van. After stopping and getting out, the driver found a medium-sized dog behind the vehicle, according to the report.
The driver told police he did not see the dog around the vehicle before driving forward and notified the dog’s owner after the incident, according to the report.

An officer responding to the scene reported finding the dog deceased behind the vehicle. Police said the driver was not injured and the vehicle was not damaged.
