BOE Listens To Presentation On District's Operational Goals (newtownbee.com) — Newtown Public Schools leaders have outlined year-two priorities for their 2025–28 operational strategic goals, including security upgrades, capital projects, and technology improvements across all schools. Plans also call for refining the budget process, preparing a new transportation contract, modernizing hiring and HR systems, and evaluating a weapons detection system at Newtown High School, with updates expected during upcoming budget discussions.
   

2. P&Z Discusses POCD Collaborations And 8-24 Referrals (newtownbee.com) — Newtown's Planning & Zoning Commission is looking to formalize regular collaboration with other town boards on the Plan of Conservation and Development, aiming to keep land-use decisions aligned. Commissioners also unanimously backed an 8-24 referral supporting a federal NRCS buyout of repeatedly flooded homes on Berkshire Road, which would restore the land to natural floodplain and reduce future risk.
   

3. NUMC Outreach Project For Binky Patrol Underway (newtownbee.com) — Newtown United Mission and Outreach is collecting handmade blankets, baby hats, and related supplies to support Binky Patrol, which donates comforting items to children in need, including patients at Danbury Hospital. Residents can drop off blankets, yarn, or checks at the Sandy Hook church on Church Hill Road or mail financial contributions there to help local volunteers reach more vulnerable kids.
   

4. 2026 Connecticut High School Football Top 25 Rankings – Sep. 28 (on3.com) — Newtown football fans can celebrate as the Newtown Nighthawks crack the statewide Top 25, landing at No. 25 in the latest Connecticut high school football rankings. The list highlights how Newtown stacks up against powerhouse programs like Brunswick, New Canaan, and Masuk, and points readers to tools for tracking scores and results across Connecticut all season long.
   

5. What to expect as the weekend nor'easter continues (nbcconnecticut.com) — A powerful nor'easter is bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and scattered road closures across Connecticut, including a shutdown of CT-34 at Jordan Hill Road in Newtown because of a tree in wires. Residents should expect 1 to 3 more inches of rain, monitor for additional closures and power outages, and check with local organizations for weather-related cancellations through Monday.
