Aquarion Warns Drought Could Lead To Stricter Water Restrictions In Fairfield County

NEWTOWN, CT — Aquarion Water Company is urging customers to conserve water as ongoing dry conditions push some Fairfield County water systems closer to drought triggers.

Residents in Bethel, Bridgeport, Darien, Easton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Monroe, New Canaan, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Shelton, Stamford, Stratford, Trumbull, Weston, Westport and Wilton are urged to conserve water.

The company said moderate-to-severe drought conditions and a rainfall deficit of 10 to 18 inches over the past year have left reservoir levels unusually low.

Aquarion expects some Fairfield County systems to reach drought triggers within the next two weeks and is reminding customers to follow its mandatory twice-weekly outdoor watering schedule.

Homes with even-numbered addresses may water on Sundays and Wednesdays, while odd-numbered addresses may water on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Watering is permitted from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to midnight. Aquarion said conserving water now could help avoid stricter restrictions later this summer.
