Horse-riding group's plan of 'tiptoeing' around fragile swamp for new bridle trail OKed by Newtown (nhregister.com) — Newtown's wetlands commission has unanimously approved a creative gravel-and-fabric crossing so the Newtown Bridle Lands Association can reroute its long-standing 7.5-mile equestrian trail around a fragile swamp. The solution preserves a 48-year-old late-October horse-riding tradition that draws up to 100 horses, while protecting sensitive wetlands and respecting nearby Brushy Hill Road homeowners' property limits.
   

2. Newtown Restaurant And Business Appreciation Week October 16-25 (newtownbee.com) — Newtown residents can look forward to Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week October 16–25, featuring specials from local eateries and shops highlighted on the newtown.org directory. A $50 "Sip & Savor" kickoff at the Newtown Community Center on October 15 will showcase local restaurants, benefit Real Food CT, and invite more Newtown businesses to join the free directory.

Semiquincentennial Community Concert, October 4 (newtownbee.com) — Newtown Congregational Church is inviting residents to a free Semiquincentennial community concert on Sunday, October 4 at 2 pm, likely the town's final celebration of the 250th anniversary. Local Newtown musicians will perform patriotic favorites and classic American songs, with hot dogs, apple pie, and donations supporting a veterans' organization.
