• I-84 Eastbound On-Ramp To Close In Newtown (patch.com) — Newtown drivers should prepare for a full weekend closure of the Exit 9 on-ramp from Route 25 to I-84 eastbound from Friday night, Aug. 28, through early Monday, Aug. 31. The shutdown is part of a multi-year, multimillion-dollar CTDOT improvement project, and motorists will need to follow posted detours, watch for schedule changes, and travel at safe speeds through the area.
   

• Newtown (CT) Volunteer Dive Team Recovers Missing Wedding Band From West Redding River (firefighternation.com subscription) — Newtown's Underwater Search and Rescue team recently helped a resident recover a wedding band with deep sentimental value from the river near Saugatuck Falls in West Redding. Using both scuba and snorkel searches, volunteers located the ring within minutes and safely returned it, after coordinating with local police and fire officials.
