Loaded Gun Found In Backpack Left At Newtown Store: Police (patch.com) — A customer at Newtown's General Store discovered a backpack containing a loaded gun, prompting employees to call local police and launch an investigation. Officers say the owner had accidentally left the bag behind, but he later turned himself in and was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, with a court appearance set in Danbury.

Cat Rescued From Newtown House Fire, Flames Contained (patch.com) — Firefighters in Newtown quickly contained a Wednesday afternoon garage fire, rescuing one cat and keeping flames from spreading into the home's living areas. All residents got out safely, the second cat is believed safe, and the Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.
