Ernest R. Marchitto, Sr., 94, of Hamden passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026 in the Hamden Rehabilitation &amp; Health Care Center. Husband of the late Carol Hopkins Marchitto. Beloved father of Ernest R. (Kelley) Marchitto, Jr. of New Haven and Matthew (Jennifer) Marchitto of Hamden. Loving grandfather of Joseph, Melissa, Courtney and Casey, Cherished great grandfather of James, Chase and Amelia. Brother of the late Grace Anastasio, Louise Buemi and Anthony Marchitto. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Ernest was born in New Haven on October 15, 1931, a son of the late Anthony and Carmela Vastola Marchitto. Prior to his retirement he was the owner of Carol's Coffee Shop in West Haven and Milford for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Family and friends may call at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven Wednesday morning from 9:00-11:00 and are also invited to committal services with military honors in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven at 11:30.
