[Norwalk, CT &ndash; April 2026] &ndash; After six months of civic leadership training, public speaking, mentorship, and community engagement through the Ms President US program, Allison Figueroa has been elected Ms President US Norwalk for 2026, along with her VP, Damaris Valdovinos.
Allison, a 7th grader at Roton Middle School, earned the title at the annual Ms President US Signature Campaign and Election held at Wilton High School&rsquo;s Clune Center. Her winning platform focused on teen mental health in school.
The event featured 22 girls in grades 4-8 representing nine Connecticut towns, each presenting original campaign platforms before an audience of more than 300 community members, elected officials, educators, and civic leaders. The evening celebrated not only the election itself, but also the power of young girls using their voices to create meaningful change in their communities.
Connecticut State Senator Ceci Maher delivered the keynote address, encouraging the candidates to continue pursuing leadership and public service. &ldquo;I hope I will see you out campaigning in the future. With that in mind, I know our future is bright!&rdquo; she said.
The event drew support from numerous state and local leaders, including Ms President US Board Chair and First Selectperson Rudy Marconi, First Selectwoman Toni Boucher, State Representative Savet Constantine, State Representative Tracy Marra, Selectwoman Kim Healy, Registrars of Voters Wayne Floegel and Andrea Theodore, and Board of Education Chair Tina Malhotra.
&ldquo;The confidence, creativity, and courage these girls demonstrated was exemplary,&rdquo; said Amanda Cordano, Executive Director of Ms President US. &ldquo;Allison&rsquo;s platform reflects exactly what this program is about: empowering girls to identify issues in their communities and step forward as leaders with solutions.&rdquo;
As Ms President US Norwalk, Allison will participate in civic and community events throughout the coming year while advancing her platform and serving as a young ambassador for leadership and civic engagement.
Ms President US is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young girls to pursue leadership roles in their communities and beyond. Through educational programming, mentorship, and hands-on civic experiences, the organization empowers girls to become confident changemakers and tomorrow&rsquo;s leaders.

Celebrate Independence Day at the Brian R. Bill Darien Memorial VFW Post 6933's 21st Annual Push &amp; Pull Parade on Saturday, July 4.
The morning begins with a Declaration Day ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in the Darien High School courtyard. Families participating in the parade should arrive at DHS by 9:45 a.m. Contest winners will be announced at 10:20 a.m., and the parade steps off at 10:30 a.m.
The parade route travels from DHS to Noroton Avenue and concludes at VFW Post 6933.
Singer-songwriter Griffin House will perform as the special musical guest. After the parade, attendees can enjoy food vendors, live music, face painting and children's activities at the VFW.
Contests include Best Decorated Vehicle, Best Float and Most Patriotic Family, with winners leading the parade as honorary grand marshals.

WESTON, CT — As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Norfield Congregational Church invites the community to participate in a timely and thoughtful four-week sermon series exploring what freedom, faith, hope, and responsibility mean in this historic moment.
Beginning Sunday, July 5, 2026, Senior Minister Rev. Dr. Bernard R. Wilson will lead the series, “A New Birth of Freedom: America at 250 — Beautiful. Broken. Beloved. Becoming.”
Through scripture, reflection, and honest conversation, the series will examine how people of faith can engage the nation's milestone with gratitude, humility, courage, and hope.
“This is not a partisan series,” notes Rev. Wilson. “It is a Gospel series. We are not gathering around a flag, but around Christ's table. Our goal is to explore what faithful citizenship and Christian hope look like in a complex and changing world.”
The preaching series will be complemented by special musical offerings by Dr. David H. Connell, Director of Music and Worship Arts.American composers and hymns writers from across our history will be featured.

Prisoners of Hope 
Is honest love strong enough to tell the truth?
The series opens with an invitation to reflect on America's blessings and shortcomings, embracing a hope that is deeper than nostalgia and grounded in God's promises.

This message explores the responsibility of cultivating a future rooted in justice, compassion, and faithfulness.

Surely God Is in This Place 
Can grace still wash ashore when the world is groaning?
In addition to the 10:00am worship service in the Sanctuary, a special beach service will be held at 8:30 a.m. at Compo Beach in Westport, celebrating God's presence in creation and community.
July 26 — RISE
Give Us a Listening Heart 
What wisdom will guide the next 250 years?
The series concludes with a call to deeper listening, discernment, and hope for generations yet to come.
Throughout the month, worshipers will be invited to wrestle with questions of national identity, faith, stewardship, and belonging while remaining centered in the Gospel's vision of reconciliation and hope.
