• Orange Detective Denny Peterson Named 2026 Police Officer Of The Year (patch.com) — Orange residents will see one of their own honored as Detective Denny Peterson is named the town's 2026 Police Officer of the Year, with a ceremony set for Sept. 17 at the Courtyard by Marriott on Marsh Hill Road. The longtime Orange officer is being recognized for his investigative work, leadership in the Honor Guard, and community involvement, including volunteering with Connecticut Special Olympics.
   

• Charles Island Kinusaiga Workshop with Milford Makes (ctpublic.org subscription) — A small-group fabric art workshop is coming to Good Shepherd Church on Racebrook Road in Orange, where participants will create a Kinusaiga piece inspired by Milford's Charles Island view. All materials are included, but space is limited to 12 people and advance registration is required for the September 16 evening session.
   

• West Nile virus detected in mosquitoes in Shelton, days after first human case (ctpost.com) — West Nile virus–carrying mosquitoes have been found in several Connecticut towns, including Orange, underscoring a growing late-summer health concern. State and local officials urge residents to use repellent, avoid dusk and dawn exposure, and remove standing water around homes to reduce mosquito breeding and potential virus transmission.
