Connecticut Blizzard: Oxford Police Urge Residents To Stay Off Roads Amid State Of Emergency
Eversource reports tens of thousands without power across its regional service area.
OXFORD, CT — Driving conditions in town are hazardous as a powerful blizzard continues to hammer Connecticut and much of the Northeast.
The Oxford Police Department said Route 67 (Oxford Road) and other local streets are snow-covered and slippery, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. Officers are patrolling throughout town and remain available to respond to emergencies.

High winds and heavy snowfall are part of a larger nor’easter impacting the region, with 1 to 2 feet of snow forecast in parts of the Northeast.
Conditions Remain Dangerous
Police said plow crews are actively working to clear roads, but residents are urged to stay home if travel is not necessary to allow crews time to make streets safer.

Oxford Schools And Offices Closed
Oxford Public Schools announced that schools and offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, citing hazardous travel conditions. Officials urged families to remain safe as the storm continues.
Governor Declares State Of Emergency
Ned Lamont declared a statewide state of emergency, activating additional resources as the storm brought whiteout conditions and dangerous wind chills.
Regional Power Outages And Flight Cancellations
According to Eversource, tens of thousands of customers across its service territory have lost power due to heavy snow and strong winds. Meanwhile, Bradley International Airport remains open but reported that more than 90 percent of flights were proactively canceled as snow removal operations continue.
