• Oxford Fire Department Handles Record Number Of Calls (patch.com) — Oxford residents are seeing a big jump in fire and emergency calls, with the Oxford Fire Department handling a record 82 calls in July and already exceeding its approved budget for last year. Town officials are reviewing equipment needs, repairing water damage at the Center station, and exploring grants for security cameras, while a committee begins work on replacing Rescue 54 this month. 
• The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital 18th Annual 5K Set for Oct. 24 (patch.com) — Oxford runners and walkers are invited to join Griffin Hospital's 18th Annual 5K on Oct. 24, which regularly draws participants from Oxford and across the Lower Naugatuck Valley. The family-friendly fundraiser supports advanced radiation therapy and financial help for local cancer patients, with options to form teams, collect pledges, sponsor the event, or purchase commemorative signs for loved ones.
