• Avalonia may merge with two small land trusts (theday.com) — Salem residents should know that the Salem Land Trust is poised to merge into Avalonia Land Conservancy, a move that would shift ownership and management of local preserved lands while bringing in paid staff support. The merger, already approved by Salem’s board and members, is expected to streamline finances, strengthen stewardship of places like Walden Preserve, and help secure larger conservation grants for the town’s open space.

• Lamont makes the rounds in Eastern Connecticut (theday.com) — Salem is part of a cost-saving partnership with Montville, Colchester and Bozrah to share a new regional animal control facility that Gov. Ned Lamont toured this week. During his Eastern Connecticut swing, Lamont also highlighted new state incentives for police and firefighters and backed Montville’s revitalization and trail plans, which could influence future regional funding and services affecting Salem residents.
