DERBY, CT — A GoFundMe has been launched to support a Derby woman and her family after she was recently rushed to a hospital and is in critical condition, according to the fundraiser.

According to a GoFundMe page created last week, Michele Linane visited a walk-in clinic on April 12 after feeling unwell.

At the time, Linane believed she was "dealing with a lingering sinus infection, congestion or allergies," according to the page's description.

She was given medication to help with her cough and returned home, according to the page.

"That night, everything changed," the description reads. "In the middle of the night, Michele struggled to breathe. An ambulance was called and she was rushed to Griffin Hospital, where she has remained ever since. Michele has been diagnosed with human metapneumovirus and septic shock, and she is currently in critical condition in the ICU. Since being admitted, she has faced numerous serious challenges—but true to who she is, Michele continues to fight with strength and resilience."

According to the GoFundMe, Linane is a lifelong Derby resident and has worked as a beloved preschool director for over 20 years.

"She has touched the lives of countless children, families, students and teachers with her kindness, dedication and warmth," the description reads.

The description also highlighted Linane's "caring heart, selfless nature" and "unforgettable laugh," as well as as her generosity.

"Now, Michele needs us," the description reads. "This sudden and devastating illness has left her loved ones heartbroken and facing an uncertain road ahead. We are asking for your support to help Michele and her family during this incredibly difficult time."

As of Thursday evening, the GoFundMe has raised over $18,000 toward a current fundraising goal of $22,000 after receiving over 160 donations.

All funds received from the fundraiser will be transferred to Linane's sister, Kellee Paulillo, and be used for assistance with medical visits, as well as "easement into the recovery process, physical therapy aids, household bills and more," according to the description.

"Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden," the description reads, "and allow her family to focus on what matters most—being by her side."
