New Family-Owned Toy Store Opening In Shelton

SHELTON, CT — A new independent, family-owned toy store planned to open later this year in Shelton hopes to bring some joy back to toy shopping.

Fairfield residents Lindsay and David Orr currently plan to open Shelton Toys & Games at 866 Bridgeport Avenue this fall.

According to Lindsay Orr, the couple decided to open their new toy store in Shelton due to the large amount of families who live in the area.

It is also the community where her husband grew up and has many fond childhood memories, according to Orr.

"We feel like we're going to provide exactly what we value as a young family - a great toy shopping experience - to families in Shelton," Orr said in an email to Patch.

According to additional press materials provided by Orr, Shelton Toys & Games aims to be the ultimate neighborhood toy store that will cater to all ages, curating everything from first year developmental toys to strategy board games for family tournament nights.

Driven by a mission to bring the joy back to toy shopping, the store will prioritize old-school customer service and feature interactive demo stations where children can test out the latest trends while parents enjoy a stress-free environment.

As experienced retailers in the toy space and parents of two young children, the Orrs realized the immense value of having a dedicated, local retail hub to pick out a birthday gift on the way to a party, celebrate a milestone or discover a new family game, according to press materials.

"We are a busy family, and we're always in need of something convenient in town to grab a gift on the way to a birthday party, shopping for the holidays or a place to take our kids to celebrate milestones big and small," Orr said. "We also love the connection and community we feel when shopping local. We're excited to bring that to Shelton."

According to Orr, the store will not be a tiny boutique or a big box store, but rather something in between.

"We will carry the classic toys we all know and love, keep up to date on the newest toy trends and provide excellent hands-on customer service," Orr said. "We are experienced retailers, and our biggest focus is community and connection when it comes to the experience."

Orr said the store will offer an online option for easy store pick up, as well as free gift wrapping.

They also plan to hold events such as board game nights, toddler story hour and even Pokémon trading.

"We are planning to have something for every age and every stage," Orr said, "great baby gifts all the way up to board games for families. We will have Pokémon cards, as well as other trading card games. You can expect a lot of fidgets, and squishies too."

An official opening date for the store has not been announced yet, however Orr said they "are hoping mid-October."

She also encouraged customers to check the store's social media channels and website for more announcements and updates.

"We want to make the whole experience of toy shopping fun and easy," Orr said. "We really value getting to know our customers, so please come in, say 'hi' and get to know us!"
