Shelton Physician Assistant Honored with 2026 Future of Healthcare Award

The Greater Bridgeport Medical Association (GBMA) has announced that a physician assistant with Yale Medicine has been selected to receive a 2026 Future of Healthcare Award, recognizing outstanding healthcare professionals under age 40 who are making a meaningful impact through leadership, innovation, service, and dedication to improving healthcare in the Greater Bridgeport region.

Shelton resident, Elizabeth "Ellie" Songer, PA, a physician assistant with Yale Medicine, is being recognized for her outstanding commitment to patient care, clinical excellence, and education within the field of orthopedic medicine.

Since joining Yale Medicine, Ellie has become an integral member of a busy and growing musculoskeletal practice. She is known for going above and beyond to ensure patients receive seamless, compassionate care throughout their surgical journey. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she has volunteered to cover hospital shifts outside of her regular practice to help provide continuity of care for patients.

Ellie was nominated for the award by Todd Morrison, MD, of Yale Medicine, who praised her exceptional work ethic, dedication to patients, and commitment to advancing the profession. In his nomination, Dr. Morrison highlighted her willingness to serve as a clinical instructor for Quinnipiac University's Physician Assistant Program, where she helps educate future physician assistants in musculoskeletal medicine and surgical care.

"Ellie Songer exemplifies what it means to put patients first as she is known to go the extra mile for them," said John Brannelly, Executive Director of the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association. "As this year's only physician assistant honoree, Ellie represents a profession that plays a vital role in today's healthcare system."

Ellie will be honored during the inaugural Future of Healthcare Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield. The event will celebrate healthcare professionals who are helping shape the future of medicine and improve the health of communities throughout the Greater Bridgeport region.
