25 Years: Southington To Host Special 9/11 Memorial Service This Week

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington residents, first responders and town officials are invited to gather Friday morning for a memorial service marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony comes 25 years after the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people in New York City, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The brief patriotic service will begin at 8:46 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the town's 9/11 Memorial in Plantsville, at the corner of Summer and Main streets.

The time coincides with when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

According to an announcement from organizer Roger H. Mathieu, the ceremony will reflect on the events of Sept. 11 and remember those who died at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania.

Members of the Southington fire and police departments, town officials, civic organizations and community residents are invited to participate.

The public is encouraged to arrive by 8:30 a.m. to help ensure parking.
