Earth Day Celebration & Ribbon Cutting: Where Literacy Meets Sustainability

Earth Day Celebration & Ribbon Cutting: Where Literacy Meets Sustainability

Event Details

Twice As Good, 17 Farmington Ave Suite A6, Plainville, CT (Olde Canal Square)

Celebrate Earth Day with a purpose on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Twice As Good, Plainville’s premier sustainable shop and refillery. This special event combines community action, children’s literacy, and the official welcoming of a new eco-friendly hub to the neighborhood.

Meet Author Kimberly Haidinger & Teen Illustrator Luna Hansen

We are honored to host local Farmington, CT author Kimberly Haidinger, founder of The Carbon Emissions Project, and her teenage daughter and illustrator, Luna Hansen. Together, this mother-daughter duo is on a mission to move the needle on climate change by empowering the next generation.

Their book series, the Climate Action Vocabulary Series, equips middle-grade readers with the essential words and concepts - like "Anthropogenic" and "Carbon Footprint" - needed to confidently join the climate conversation. By mastering the language of sustainability, Kimberly and Luna believe kids can become the primary architects of future solutions.

The "Household Diet": Actionable Climate Solutions

Between their busy schedule of school visits and community fairs, Kimberly and Luna specialize in making complex climate science approachable for families. Kimberly will be on-site to discuss how individual household habits impact global warming and how simple "habit shifts" can lead to a powerful grassroots movement.

Not sure where to start your sustainability journey? That is where April, owner of Twice As Good, comes in. By providing a local refillery and sustainable shop, April does the heavy lifting for the community, offering the tools and products families need to lower their footprint without the guesswork.

Event Highlights:

  • 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM | Climate Literacy & Books: Meet the author, take a fun climate quiz to win eco-friendly prizes, and get signed copies of Kimberly's books.
  • 3:30 PM | The Big Event: Join the Central CT Chambers of Commerce for the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony.
  • 5:00 PM | Trash-to-Art with Luna: Bring the kids for a hands-on crafting session led by Luna Hansen. Watch as she demonstrates how to transform "trash" into beautiful, recycled collage art!
  • Shop for a Cause: A portion of the day’s sales will be donated to the Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut (ELCCT) to support regional environmental education.
