'Help Us Help You:' Southington FD Asks People To Shovel Out Hydrants
The SFD is asking folks living near fire hydrants to dig them out so firefighters can quickly use them should they be needed.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — As the town and its residents continue to dig out from Sunday/Monday's snowstorm, the local fire department has a request for those breaking out the snow shovels.
"Help us help you."
One way to do that, according to the Southington Fire Department, is to dig out any fire hydrants that might be covered in snow, something likely given the heavy snowfall.

According to SFD Engine Co. 1, such a simple action could save property or even a life.
"When there's a need, every second is important," wrote Engine Co. 1. "To dig out a fire hydrant takes valuable resources and time away from mitigating an emergency.
