Man, 83, Killed In Southington Plowing Accident Sunday: Police

Southington police said the body of the man was found near an overturned ATV.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — An elderly man was killed in an apparent all-terrain vehicle accident while plowing snow in Southington on Sunday.

According to the Southington Police Department, Andrew Connolly, 83, of Southington, was found dead Sunday afternoon next to an overturned ATV.

The SPD said officers, along with the Southington Fire Department and American Medical Response ambulance personnel, were called to the area of 154 Mandel Drive for a report of an unresponsive male near an overturned ATV.

"Upon arrival, responding officers were directed by a witness to the rear of a nearby property on Flanders Street," wrote the SPD in a release issued Sunday night.

"Officers located an adult male who was unresponsive next to an overturned ATV. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced deceased at the scene."

According to police, preliminary investigation indicates that Connolly had been operating an ATV equipped with a snowplow attachment.

Police said the vehicle then traveled off a retaining wall approximately 8 feet in height along a driveway, causing the ATV to roll over.

The Southington Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team was activated and has assumed control of the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
