Dogs, E-Bikes, Scooters And Skateboards Banned At Apple Harvest Fest: Southington PD (patch.com) — Southington visitors heading to the Apple Harvest Festival should be prepared for strict rules banning dogs, bikes, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards and other unauthorized vehicles from closed festival areas on both October weekends. Police will enforce a town ordinance, with fines and possible impoundment for violators, while allowing exceptions for emergency vehicles, mobility devices, service animals, and participants in official festival events.

Southington FD Celebrates Massive Grant, But Town Council Has Final Say (patch.com) — Southington has secured a $3.03 million federal SAFER grant to hire 12 firefighters, but the Town Council still must vote on whether to accept it and eventually fund those positions locally. Fire officials say the award is one of the largest staffing grants in the country and would significantly boost emergency response. The Connecticut Lottery also reported several other six-figure prizes statewide, while now keeping winners' names private unless they consent.

CT orthopedic practice reports data breach affecting nearly 22,000 people (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — Patients of Comprehensive Orthopedics' Southington and Wallingford offices should know that hackers accessed files tied to nearly 22,000 people, potentially exposing Social Security numbers, financial data, and medical records. The practice says it discovered suspicious network activity in February, hired forensic experts, and has since secured systems and begun mailing notification letters. Anyone treated there is urged to monitor credit, bank accounts, and insurance statements closely and consider fraud alerts or credit freezes.
