1. Miffed Southington Officials Mull New Rules After Sports Teams Paint Town Property (patch.com) — Southington residents may soon see tighter oversight on any changes to town-owned parks and buildings after youth sports teams painted large logos without prior approval. Town Manager Alex Ricciardone and council leaders are weighing a formal process, and possibly an ordinance, to ensure all future alterations to municipal property receive appropriate review.

2. Southington Schools Awarded Large Grant For Special Education Programs (patch.com) — Southington families of students with disabilities could see expanded services after the school district secured nearly $300,000 from a new state special education grant program. The funding is meant to build local capacity so more Southington students can learn in their home community instead of costly out-of-district placements, though specific programs have not yet been detailed.

3. Southington Organization To Cancel Battery Recycling Program (patch.com) — Southington residents who've been dropping off used batteries at the Southington Land Trust or public library need to switch plans: the nonprofit is ending its collection program after Aug. 30. Starting Aug. 31, you'll have to bring recyclable batteries to the Southington Transfer Station on Old Turnpike Road or the Staples on Queen Street instead.

4. Southington Reports Surplus As Council Revisits School Funding Dispute (patch.com subscription) — Southington finished a recent fiscal year with a $2.4 million surplus and expects a $2.6 million state payment from an old DePaolo Middle School renovation, boosting town finances.
