Southingtom Man Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Minor, Met Victim Via Social Media: State

A Southington man was convicted of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. Sentencing is set for Sept. 23.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Tolland Judicial District jury on Wednesday found a Southington man guilty of sexually assaulting a minor he met through Snapchat in 2020, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Connecticut State's Attorney Craig P. Nowak announced that Cody Cutler, 28, of Southington, was convicted in Rockville Superior Court of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor following a jury trial before Judge Tejas Bhatt.

According to prosecutors, evidence presented during the trial showed that on Dec. 18, 2020, Cutler used the social media messaging platform Snapchat to meet the minor victim before sexually assaulting her.

Prosecutors said the victim immediately reported the assault and was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, where medical treatment produced physical evidence that corroborated her account.

The case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Emily Trudeau with assistance from Inspector John DiVenere and Paralegal Specialist Jennifer McDermott.

The Coventry Police Department, Connecticut State Police Troop K, and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Forensic Science Laboratory also assisted in the investigation.

In a statement, Trudeau and the Tolland State's Attorney's Office thanked the victim "for her courage in reporting her assault, her patience during the long and difficult pretrial investigations, and her bravery, candor, and composure during her in-court testimony."

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 23, 2026, in Superior Court in Rockville.
