Southington Motel Sexual Assault Ends With 20-Year Prison Sentence

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A 35-year-old Enfield man will serve 20 years in prison after a jury convicted him in connection with a 2024 sexual assault that began at a Southington motel and continued onto a highway, according to prosecutors.

New Britain Judicial District State’s Attorney Christian M. Watson said Jeremy Figueroa-Gerena, 35, of Enfield, was sentenced Feb. 11 in Superior Court in New Britain to a total effective sentence of 30 years, suspended after 20 years served, followed by 25 years of probation.

A jury in Superior Court in New Britain on Aug. 25, 2025 found Figueroa-Gerena guilty in a joined prosecution of two pending cases. He was convicted of Sexual Assault in the First Degree, four counts of Violation of a Protective Order, Unlawful Restraint in the First Degree and Assault in the Third Degree.

Evidence presented at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted a woman at a motel in Southington in 2024. After the sexual assault, prosecutors said, he physically assaulted and restrained the victim inside his vehicle while traveling on a highway. At the time, he was subject to a court-issued protective order prohibiting contact with the victim.

Watson said domestic violence cases often reflect a cycle of abuse and expressed hope that the sentence represents a meaningful step in the victim’s healing process.

Authorities credited the Southington Police Department, Connecticut State Police Troop H, The Hospital of Central Connecticut and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services for their roles in the investigation.
