Southington Extends Emergency Parking Ban For Storm: UPDATE
Southington's parking ban runs Sunday 6 p.m. to Tuesday 6 a.m.; police and fire urge residents to stay off roads.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Police Department has announced an emergency winter parking ban ahead of a forecasted winter storm.
The ban was to be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24. During that time, no on-street parking will be allowed.
But the SPD extended the ban on Monday afternoon to Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m.

"Although the snowfall has stopped, roadway crews are still actively clearing and widening streets," wrote the SPD in a release Monday afternoon.

"We appreciate your continued cooperation as crews work to ensure safe travel conditions throughout town," wrote the SPD.
Police said the restriction is intended to allow roadway crews to safely and efficiently clear streets. Vehicles parked on the street during the ban may be subject to enforcement.
“Thank you for your cooperation, and please stay safe,” the department said in its announcement.
Meanwhile, town officials announced that all municipal buildings, from the town hall to the Calendar House to the library and community services, were all closed, expected to reopen Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Southington schools are also closed.
The Southington Fire Department is also urging residents to complete storm preparations before 4 p.m. Sunday.
Fire officials reminded residents to stay off the roads during the storm and to clear snow from around fire hydrants to ensure emergency access.
