Southington Mourns Loss Of Longtime Zoning Board Leader

He died on Monday after a long battle with cancer, having also served a decade on the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A longtime community servant who led the commission responsible for overseeing Southington's development has died.

Former Southington Planning and Zoning Commission ChairmanRobert "Bob" Hammersley died Monday, Feb. 9, at the age of 59, following a long bout with cancer.

As a result, the Southington Town Council and Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone have ordered that Southington's flags be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Flags will remain at half-staff until the conclusion of funeral services on Saturday, Feb. 14, Ricciardone wrote on social media.

Hammersley was on the PZC from 2015 through October 2025, including as chairman from 2019 through 2025.

"His years of dedicated public service and leadership made a lasting contribution to the community," said Ricciardone in a statement.

"We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Lisa, his four children, and his many friends and colleagues during this difficult time. Bob’s legacy of public service will long be remembered in the halls of town hall and throughout the Southington community."
