Southington Proposes Water Rate Increase, Comments Sought
Southington residents can comment on Thursday, May 14, on proposed water rate increases tied to rising operational costs.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Water Department is proposing increases to water consumption and service charges beginning with the July 2026 billing cycle.
As a result, the Southington Board of Water Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposal at 5 p.m. May 14 at the Southington Water Department office, 605 W. Queen St.
According to a legal notice issued by the department, the proposed rate increase is intended to support continued drinking water operations and infrastructure improvements amid rising costs for insurance, labor, fuel, chemicals, power, and infrastructure.

Under the proposal, quarterly consumption charges for customers using between 0 and 1,000 CCF would increase from $4.91 per CCF to $5.13 per CCF, an increase of 22 cents.
Rates for usage above 1,000 CCF would rise from $4.59 per CCF to $4.80 per CCF, an increase of 21 cents.

The department also proposed increases to quarterly meter service charges across all meter sizes.
For residential customers with 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch meters, quarterly service charges would increase from $36.28 to $37.91. Charges for 1-inch meters would rise from $53.77 to $56.19.
Larger commercial meter charges also would increase under the proposal, including 2-inch meters from $137.52 to $143.71 and 6-inch meters from $683.79 to $714.59.
