Construction Worker Found At Bottom Of Large, Empty Water Cistern In Stamford
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration was called to the scene to investigate the incident.
STAMFORD, CT — A worker was rescued by firefighters Tuesday afternoon.
At 1:29 p.m., the Stamford Fire Department responded to 375 Fairfield Avenue for an injured worker inside a water cistern/tank. The location is a large, multi-purpose warehouse that is under construction, fire officials said.
Engine 3 and Truck 3 from the West Side Fire Station arrived in less than three minutes and confirmed that a male construction worker was injured and located at the bottom of a large and empty water cistern at the site, fire officials said. Additional resources arrived to support the removal of the injured man from the cistern.

A technical rescue operation was conducted by the members of Engine 5 and Rescue 1, assisted by Truck 2, Truck 3, and Engine 3’s personnel. Firefighters were able to quickly set up a tripod and rope haul system to remove the worker.
The injured construction worker was removed from the cistern in less than 30 minutes and transported to Stamford Hospital for treatment.
