Tony Award Winning Satirical gem plays in Stamford
Curtain Call presents URINETOWN February 6 through 21.
The Tony Award winning musical with one of the most misunderstood names in Broadway history – URINETOWN – is coming to Stamford. Curtain Call, at the Sterling Farms Theatre Complex, will present this satirical gem in the Kweskin Theatre, February 6 through 21.
“Like most people, when I first heard the title of the show, I was like, ‘what the heck?’,” said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director and producer for this February production. “Once I listened to the score (Tony Award for Best Original Score) and read the script, (Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, I was hooked,” he added.
URINETOWN is a sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! URINETOWN is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself!

“URINETOWN is one of several shows this season that have never played here so I’m really excited for our fans to see it,” Ursone noted. “Having Stephen Emerick directing is also terrific because he has a great understanding of the style of the show,” he added.
Emerick said, “I had the pleasure of performing in this show at The Ridgefield Theatre Barn in 2018, and it was an unforgettable, challenging, and fun experience that taught me a lot about comedic timing, character development, and the power that a piece of art has to create change. I hope people see this production and walk away from it not only humming the unforgettable songs from the show, but thinking about its message and what you can do with your voice in 2026.”

The cast of 24 includes, Maggie Adams, David Anctil, Chris Balestriere, Brian Bianco, Monica Castillo, Victoria Clougher, Eileen Dulmaine, Robert Failla, Kaitlyn Ferrari, Lauren Garafano, Lauren Gulliver-Travers, Katie Imholt, Paul Johnson, Jimmy Meistereich, Chris Nardi, Rob Nichols, Emily Pisara, Isaiah Rodriguez, Rachel Rosado, Emma Sawch, Sarah Sherwood, Kathryn Tracy, Dan Travers, and Samantha Van Nostrand.
Speaking of the cast, Emerick said, “The cast of URINETOWN is one of the hardest working, funny, and easy going groups I've worked with. Overflowing with talent, this group of performers are committed to the precision, humor, and darkness that the show demands. Since December, they've made it easy for me and the production team to teach staging, fight combat, music, and choreography, while diving deep into character work, backstory, and the concept of the show.”
This satirical comedy opened on Broadway on September 20, 2001, at what is now the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The musical received acclaim upon its debut, receiving 10 Tony Award nominations and taking home – in addition to the two already mentioned - Best Direction of a Musical, plus three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards,
